Oklahoma Metrc FAQ

Oklahoma Metrc

Oklahoma's seed-to-sale tracking requirements were established through House Bill 2612, known as the "unity bill". Signed into law in 2019, the legislation mandated that all licensed medical marijuana businesses use a statewide track-and-trace system to monitor cannabis from cultivation through final sale.

In 2020, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) selected Metrc to implement and operate that system.

Today, all Oklahoma licensees, growers, processors, transporters, testing labs, and dispensaries, are required to use Metrc to track all medical marijuana and medical marijuana products throughout the supply chain.

Costs?

In Oklahoma, all licensees must pay a $40 monthly support fee. This covers Metrc support and training. Licensees must also purchase the tags for their plants and marijuana products. Cannabis plant tags are $0.45 per tag while package tags are $0.25 per tag.

To read more about costs involved in Oklahoma Metrc and Metrc tags, see Metrc’s support bulletins.

Metrc Training in Oklahoma

Metrc training is mandatory for all OMMA-licensed cannabis businesses in Oklahoma, and it's a prerequisite for gaining system access. The owner or key administrator of each commercial license is required to complete Metrc's New Business class before being credentialed.

The class is available each weekday through the Metrc scheduler, and also on demand through Metrc Learn once you have an account. Oklahoma.gov After completing training, you'll contact Metrc Support to receive your credentials.

For licensees already operating in Metrc, advanced training courses are available through Metrc Learn and the Metrc scheduler, covering topics specific to your license type.

OMMA has also prepared a Metrc Users' Guide to help with basic information and common errors.

Beyond the official curriculum, Metrc's built-in resources have historically been limited in depth, particularly for newer operators trying to navigate day-to-day workflows. Third-party consultancies and cannabis software providers, like Canix, offer supplemental Metrc support that can fill those gaps. Given that non-compliance can result in fines or jeopardize your license, investing in additional training is worth serious consideration, especially as Oklahoma's regulatory requirements continue to evolve.
